Bailout的意思、起源及用法

希腊危机风云变幻，A股走势步步惊心… 世界一片混乱之际，了解bailout正当时。Bailout无疑是最近比较抢眼的新闻热词。Wikipedia对其解释如下：A bailout is a colloquial（口语的） term for giving financial support to a company or country which faces serious financial difficulty or bankruptcy. 可见，bailout常指对陷入严重财务困境的企业、或国家的救助。当然，最近因债务危机（debt crisis）而焦头烂额的希腊（Greece）是最好的例子。

根据Investopedia, 2008年全球金融危机之际，美国政府耗资7000亿美元救助各类金融机构及信用危机所波及的受害者，堪称史上最大规模救助之一（One of the biggest bailouts）。

Bailout/’beɪlaʊt/源自动词短语bail out，意思是：保释（多用于囚犯，需要缴纳保释金：bail bond）。如：John’s father bailed him out of jail. 注意，bail和out连写时，它的词性是名词/形容词，而非动词。

近期国内A股正经历大幅下跌（steep decline），管理层果断驰援（ come to the rescue），其一系列维稳动作被外媒称为对股市的bailout（救市），《The Business Insider》对中国股民似乎颇为了解：China investors believe in a government bailout；《华尔街日报》的态度则更趋谨慎：Beijings stock market bailout nets less than overwhelming results。究竟国家队出手能否力挽狂澜，在保持镇定的同时，我们且拭目以待。

美11岁女生的分手短信火了

这条ding ding ding分手短信的内容最近在Twitter上疯转，获2万多个点赞，甚至登上了Yahoo头条。

美国11岁的初中女生Katie Nickens与男友Joey的分手短信内容被姐姐晒到Twitter，竟意外爆红。支持者认为，Katie选择果断与劈腿小男友分手值得赞赏，短信中冒出的”Ding ding ding”金句，更是呛到Joey无言以对。一起来看看短信截屏，附上Will的翻译 🙂

Katie：我俩得谈谈。
Joey：好。
Katie：听说你和Natalie去公园幽会了… 你为什么要欺骗我Joey？我给过你2次机会，你说你爱我，我信了。现在看来，未必。

Joey: 不好意思啊，我跟她只是玩玩而已。
Katie: 得了吧，以后在学校别和我说话。我根本就没爱过你。
Joey: 行啊！反正老给我买星巴克饮料的人是你，所以很明显你还是有点儿爱我的。

Katie: 去你的, Joey。
Katie: “叮叮叮”… 你听，什么声儿？哦对，是接你的电梯到了。因为你根本就够不上我的层次。
Katie: 我赢了。

本文的英语口语学习要点提示：

1. screw you: 意思是去你的，类似于说go to hell, fuck you。screw you尽管是一句非常不客气的骂人用语（insulting, swear word），但程度还是要比赤裸裸的Fuck you客气一点。另外，日常生活中，尤其是在亲密的朋友之间，也常用screw you半开玩笑地表达假装生气（佯怒），其实说话者也许并非真的生气。

参考urbandictionary.com的例句：

Karm: Dude your boyfriend’s effing hot.
Sue: Screw you.

2. you are not on my level: 意思是你和我不是一个档次，你不够格（参考Yahoo Answers用户的回答：you are not on my level means you are not up to my standards, intelligently, financially, socially. It’s a very rude thing to say to anyone and hurtful.）。level是级别，等级的意思。这句话要慎用，因为话里的极度蔑视情绪可能会伤害到他人。不过在本文中，由于Joey说的话非常可恨，所以Katie忍不住爆粗，情有可原。另外，Katie在这里用了一个pun（双关语），ding ding ding，elevator来接你了，因为你根本就够不着我这一层。这里的层（level），既是电梯的楼层，也是人品的层次。

3. for real: 意思是认真的。类似于serious, for sure。for real在口语中经常出现，比如：“Dude, My dad’s gonna buy me a brand new sports car!” “Wow… are you for real?”

《The Forger》是John Travolta的2015新片。也许这并非他的上乘之作，但这部犯罪主题的亲情电影却把一位慈父对儿子的爱刻画得细致入微。因为喜欢，所以特地从对白中挑出一些简单实用的口语，和大家分享。

1.- What do you want him to do, Ray? Meet some girl and take her out on a date. Maybe fall in love, meet the family, someday have sex in the back of a Buick, on the bank of the Charles?

– Yeah, Carl, I do.
– 你希望他怎么做呢，Ray？结交某个女生，带她去约会… 恋爱，见双方家长。然后到某天，在Charles河岸上，两人在别克车的后座上亲热？
– 没错，Carl，我真是这么想的。

2.Gramps, It’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

*gramps: (非正式)爷爷，=grampa

3.- Look at you, I think those girls are checking you out!
– Dad, Stop! They are like 20 something.

*20 something: 20几岁。在英语（美语）中，something前面加数字常用来表达一个年龄段，20 something意思是20-30岁的年龄阶段。而30 something则指30-40岁的年龄段。40 something, 50 something依此类推。参考audioenglish.org中有关于thirty something的详细解释: The time of life between 30 and 40.

4.Look, my son’s sitting over there, if you could, give him anything he wants, and I’ll have a cheese burger and a coffee.

0该怎么读，是Zero还是O?

很多时候，你会听到美国人把数字0读成字母O。你有没有产生这样的疑惑，到底什么时候读成zero，什么时候读成O呢？看看来自Grammar Girl的权威解释。

Sometimes people think that it’s wrong to pronounce zero as “oh,” but it’s actually OK in certain contexts.
有时，人们认为把数字0读成“oh”是不对的，但是在特定的语境下，这样的读法其实没有问题。

For example, it’s fine—even normal—to say “oh” when you’re reading a series of numbers such as
比如：当你读出类似于下面的一连串数字时，读成“oh”不仅没错，甚至相当正常。

A zip code (90210) 一个邮编（如：90210）
A room number (room 404) 一个房间号（如：404号房）
A phone number (555-206-1234) 一个电话号码（如：555-206-1234））
A credit card number (1024 5026 9046 8065) 一串信用卡号（如：1024 5026 9046 8065）

Of course, we can’t forget agent designations: James Bond (Agent 007).

You pronounce it “zero” when you are talking about math or science. For example, you would say “five minus zero equals five” or that the temperature is “below zero.”
